The arid landscape of the Ribera finds its maximum expression in the Bardenas Reales, Natural Park and Park of the Biosphere. Intense soil erosion has shaped the lunar landscape which characterises this 42,500-hectare area, replete with gullies, high, bare plateaus, peaks and hillocks

Before entering the Bardenas, it is always a good idea to familiarise yourself with its layout as getting lost is by no means difficult. The normal departure point is the village of Arguedas, 12 km. from Tudela, heading towards the chapel of the Virgen del Yugo, from which astonishing views of a large part of the Bardenas landscape can be taken in .

The great plateau known as the El Plano de Bardenas (The Plain of the Bardenas) is in the northernmost part of the area.
The Bardena Negra (Black Bardena) takes up the southernmost section and, together with the Vedado de Eguaras (Eguaras Reserve) in the north, is home to practically the only vegetation to be found in the area.

The most interesting landscapes are in the Bardena Blanca (White Bardena) with peaks such as Castildetierra, El Hermanito or Sanchicorrota, gullies like Barranco Grande or elevations of great beauty, such as the area known as Pisquerra.

The Bardenas comprise a setting of enormous, natural importance and are the ideal place for trekking, cycling or simply enjoying nature.
